Golant Playground fundraising appeal is launched
It goes without saying our community loves to socialise and take on a challenge for a good cause.
This spring and summer your help is needed to organise fundraising events to raise money to pay for some new play equipment on the village green. Efforts to get grants have been unsuccessful because of our small population – so it is down to us.
Among those who will benefit are Ellie, Hugh and Sam pictured. Ellie said: ‘I would like a bigger slide and monkey bars’. While Hugh wants to get rid of the beam with the chains and replace it with a climbing frame and Sam’s wish list includes an obstacle course.
The playground appeal will run until the end of September and the equipment provided will depend on how much we raise – with the Parish Council also contributing to the project. This is a chance for anyone in the village to get involved in the fundraising – you don’t have to be a member of any group to organise an event.
There are loads of ideas on fundraising events in a book entitled ‘A guide to Fun Ways to Fundraise for your community, church or charity’ by Penny Hallett. Debbie Pugh-Jones helped the author research the book and has a copy. Suggestions include a car boot sale on the village green – possibly with a nautical theme; a dog show; auction of promises; a cheese and wine evening and a BBQ – the last auction of promises was very successful!
If you are planning an event, please register it with Debbiepughjones@aol.com to avoid clashing with someone else and then you can publicise it on Maurie Mail.
Money raised should initially be paid to the Village Hall Committee who will hold the funds as agent for the Parish Council who own the playground. The funds raised will be transferred to the Parish Council at the end of the appeal. Payment details are:
